Wireless Xbox controller won't assign a player slot.

Hello,
I recently tried to connect my wired and wireless controllers to see if I can use both at once for some PC games, but the wireless controller doesn't seem to be assigning a player slot. Both the wired and wireless have USB "plug and play" and are installed correctly with the drivers needed, but the wireless indicator just continually blinks on and off. How would I enable it to select a player slot and play with both controllers at once?

Are you using a wireless receiver with your wireless xbox controller? The cable only charges and syncs the controller with your pc.

No wireless receiver. Just the attachable USB. I know I've used it for plug and play before.

I am having the same issue, and when I try to go to Microsoft's site for the driver it gives me an error page instead of the download.
