So I sleeved my 8 and 6 pin for my gpu. Everything seemed to be ok with my GTX 470. I got my GTX 970 in the mail and now my PSU has some whine/screeching coming from it when the video card is under load. I put my GTX 470 back in and I can hear it but not as loud as the 970. It is not coil whine from the 970. I know for sure it is the PSU. I'm wondering if when I was sleeving the cables I mixed up a wire. Does anyone have a diagram to to show how the wires are connected at each end of the 8-8pin and 8-6pin connectors? Could a miss wire cause the PSU to make this noise? Wouldn't a miss wire just fry something out? Thanks.

The pinout of the cables is standardized, the PSU's headers are not. This guide can help with the cable pinouts http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html but as far as your PCIe connectors, yes, you are only dealing with 12v and ground, any mis-wiring would result in a short and the PSU shouldn't work or if it does, it'll fry things.

I might suggest checking that each wire is snug on each side of the connection but I suspect the coil whine was there but less perceptible before
