wiring up leds?

I'm having a problem with wiring up some leds first of all on the led strip I have it has a red wire and a half black half red wire? Second of all I have looked up usb cables and ports they emmit 12v and the leds are also 12v but when I cut the usb cable in half and exposed the black and red wires and connected them to the led strip with the corosponding wires red to + etc... It dosnt light up? Thanks

USB ports provide only +5V, not +12V.

Is this a single colour or multi colour strip? Multi colour need an adapter between them and the 12v supply. Also as said USB is 5v

It's a blue led strip. How am I ment to power them then ?is there anyway to get 12v out of my pc?
