So, like anyone else i have problems with wifi signal strengh. So situation is that im renting a room, where im living, and renter's router is put near the doors, so wifi signal in my room is about 2 from 4,routers signal comes thru 2 walls. Then goes another problem: with my brothers laptop i used to play League of Legends and it worked fine, but i have desktop pc, so i was thinking about usb wifi adapter, and i did buyed netgear n600 usb wifi adapter (without antenna) and it works for facebook or else, but gets laggy on youtube sometimes but sometimes dont, and sometimes it disconnects itself from router, or i do get slow speeds, when brother's laptop was fine. My friend said that laptop has wifi antenna over the screen. Then later i i found people in forums saying that neatgear is crap, or that usb wifi adapter is crap for gaming, but they dont have others or usb adapters with antenna in local "currys pc world" store, so i got confused. I also found people saying in forums that pci-e wifi card work good for them, but then others do say that pci-e cards are bad and do not work for them, that usb wifi adapter with antenna is better, because you can place it whenever you want with usb cable extender. But then again i found informatio that usb wifi adapters tends to overheat and that causes the problems witch of them i mentioned before. So i would like to ask witch to buy usb wifi adapter ( now with antenna) or pci-e wifi card? and also what manufacturer is better "d-link" , "tp-link" , or "asus"? i was looking for this one http://www.asus.com/Networking/PCEN15/ because 60% liked it of the 100, and the comments in newegg was good for it, but not every.

One thing forgot to mention that router doesnt have antenna sticking out of it, what is somehow strange for me.

Try the easiest thing first get a USB extender and see if it is better.

The largest issue with a desktop machine is the metal case and where people tend to put a desktop. Most times the wireless is mounted in the back of desktop machines both PCI and USB, People then stick the machine under a desk against a wall and wonder why it doesn't work even though they are blocking the wireless signals from all sides. Laptop have the antenna behind the screen which tends to be a optimum place.

External antenna help to a point on USB devices but a lot of the USB with external antenna are fairly old technology. There are only a tiny handful that have more than 1 antenna and support MiMO Way too many people think antenna are ugly and are stupid enough to buy product based on how it looks rather than how it performs. This means a lot of manufactures do not make USB with external antenna.

It is pretty easy to get PCI cards with multiple antenna that support the newer protocols but with PCI you are really stuck with having the antenna close to the metal case.....and maybe being under the desk. There are expensive antenna cables but there are large downsides to using those.

Now if you can place your commuter so the antenna faces the router a PCI card should work well.

You can't base you selection of wireless products on reviews really. How wireless performs is much more dependent on the house than the device itself. What you are seeing is a review of how well the device works in that persons house so it means almost nothing. The only thing reviews are good for are if people are getting a lot of software driver issues or if the manufacture is not responsive to fixing bugs.

That netgear usb wifi adapter already had one meter extender cable, but with it doesnt work very well, friend said that pci-e card should work way better than usb adapter and i dont mind wifi antenna sticking out as long as the wifi signal gets better, i dont look at pc back side only when i plug something and thats it so i dont mind

PCI work well BUT you need to rotate the case until you get the best signal. For many people this mean the back of the case is facing them all the time and they don't like that. If the best path to the router must go though the metal case of the computer you take massive signal loss. As long as the antenna of the PCI card can face the router they generally work better than USB because of the larger antenna.

i drawn a little picture, that you know where is router placed that little picture you looking from the top, that black box is router, and the pinky one is my wifi adapter with usb extender, so one wall and the stairs from second to first floor is blocking wifi signal, signal is fine, with this neatgear n600 on 2.4ghz band, but sometimes it gets bad, or my adapter just disconnects itself from router. Signal strenght near table is -79dBm, measured with wifi analyzer android app in my xperia z2 phone
