Hello,
I see plenty of video's of people playing the witcher 3 on 60 fps with my setup. (video's on youtube) (1080 p)
It only seems that I am not able to do this. What could be the problem?
I tried to overclock my gtx: 450 + on memory and 150+ on core clock. Voltage and power to max.
Should i upgrade my system? it is starting to get outdated.

My setup:
GTX 970 Asus
intel i5 4460
SSD 250 GB
Gigabyte G1 sniper B5
PSU Seasonic SII12 520W

How much RAM have you got? If it's less than 8GB that would cause some performance issues. Secondly, are your Nvidia drivers up to date? Lastly, Do you have MSI Afterburner? It can monitor your CPU, GPU and RAM usage in the game something that may be causing issues is either the GPU getting too hot and thermal throttling OR Witcher 3 can easily go up to 3.5GB+ VRAM usage meaning your GTX 970 would be having issues if you are aware of the 3.5GB fast and 0.5GB slow VRAM issue on the GTX 970 which causes FPS drops above 3.5GB usage. Best fix for this turn Textures and Shadows down to Mediumish, Ultra will use tons especially textures. Hope this helps :)

Hello,
I have 8GB of ram. Drivers are up to date. I use msi afterburner. CPU only 40% and GPU close to 100%. 60°C. Vram only at 1000MB now. (in dungeon).
Thanks I will try

What about: anti aliasing, bloom, sharpening, ambient occlusion, depth of field , chromatic aberration and vignette. Should i leave these on or off?

They are just post processing effects shouldn't make much of a difference. 60 degrees sounds find i would only be worried it it goes to 75+ degrees. 8GB RAM shouldn't be a issue either. Where do the FPS drops usually occur? Just randomly at times or specifically say in dense populated areas or massive open fields?

just try lower presets till you get the target FPS. Turn off hair works and aa if you dont mind.
or
Mess with settings and try to keep the ones you value/ prefer at a higher priority quality than the rest and find that perfect balance of performance and looks.

Its always stable around 40-50. No frame drops. And i see on youtube that other people with the same setup and same hardware manage to reach higher frames. Thats why I think that maybe i am doing something different?

Do they show what settings they are using specifically? Some YouTube videos might say "Ultra" but they may be referring to the in-game preset which doesn't actually set everything to maximum.

I watched the video. He seems to hover around 50-60 FPS most the time what i noticed is he doesn't show what Post Processing he is using. Perhaps it is on Medium or even mostly disabled. Other than that it's hard to tell. He could have an excellent card (high overclocked one). If you are looking for more performance in the game your CPU is probably bottlenecking you most, i think a GTX 970 and i5 4690K or a newer generation would run this locked at 60 FPS very well. My money is on him having lower Post Processing effects.

Ok thanks, however my cpu is only used 40% . So its not bottlenecking i guess.
So my settings around 35-45 are normal?

Core usage doesn't equate to bottlenecking, an old 1st gen i5-750 can run the game with under 100% usage but i can guarantee it would be bottlenecking. check this video of a CPU comparion in Witcher 3 Ultra, Pentium vs i3 vs i5 vs i7. It starts off fairly equal in the cutscenes but skip to 2:00 in the video to the real time moving around and the results are quite spread between the CPUs.

Use UserBenchmark if you want to compare your hardware against everyone else with it in real mix of benchmarks. http://www.userbenchmark.com/Software. Download and run this it takes about 60 seconds and see how you stack up.

Userbenchmark isn't the best for testing GPUs because it doesn't use DX11 or DX12.

I'd recommend running 3DMark FireStrike - http://store.steampowered.com/app/402290/

Your GTX 970 appears to be at its factory overclock speed. You can gain a good bit (~20%) of performance by overclocking both the core clock and memory clock.

To what values should i overlock it. As you can see in my first post.. it is already overclocked. Or Maybe i did this wrong.
