I leave my computer on all the time. It is a Dell Precision T3500.

This morning I woke up to find that the fan on my computer was running full blast, like a hairdryer. The computer seemed full operational, but I shutdown the computer.

On reboot, I got a message that there was a system problem and it recommended running a diagnostic [F5] which I did. I got Error Code: 0442 Hard Drive 3 - self test unsuccessful. Status: 77.

Does this mean the Hard Drive is bad? But everything seems to be running fine and the drive seems fully operational. Drive 3 happens to also be my C: drive (I think).

Could this be related to the fan blasting?

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

A further update, the next day I tried out the computer and it was off. This was strange because I leave it on all the time.

After trying to turn it on, the computer would start and after 2 seconds, it would turn off.

Checking various forums, a suspect would be that the PSU has died. But could it also be related to the above problem? Could a faulty hard drive cause the system to turn itself off?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
