I have an issue with the game Wolfenstein: The New Order launching in the wrong, secondary monitor. I've tried everything I could think of, but the game still won't run in my main monitor.

My setup has 3 monitors, from left to right; 1280 x 1024, 1680 x 1050, 1024 x 768 (yes, crap resolutions - they are monitors I got for free from the used ads etc). The 1680 x 1050 monitor is the one in the middle, and the primary monitor, AND the monitor the game should start in.

However, the game always start on the first monitor to the left, 1280 x 1024, with no option to change it, and the in-game resolution settings don't exceed what the monitor can support.

What I've tried:

  • ■ Changing monitor via game settings - The option only has "1".
    ■ Changing monitor manually by leaving fullscreen, moving the window to the main, and re-entering fullscreen - Nada.
    ■ Changing monitor manually by using some shortcuts such as Shift+Win+arrow keys - No luck
    ■ Running the game windowed/windowed fullscreen - The resolution setting for my main monitor is missing
    ■ Looking for a config file with the setting for which monitor the game should use - None found

The only thing I haven't tried yet is unplugging every secondary monitors and launching the game. Reason being, I'm 99% sure that would work, and it isn't the solution I'm looking for. I'd rather not go through the trouble only to confirm if it works with one monitor since I won't gain anything by knowing that. Heh.

I'd also like to note that I do not have this problem with any other game, aside from a few exceptions which were easy fixes (Ori and the Blind Forest, for example, where Shift+Win+arrow keys were the simple solution).

Also, the game crashed on startup in 64-bit so I was forced to use the 32-bit launcher. Feking hell, some games just don't want to be played...

Solution
I would try disconnecting the video cables of the left and right monitors, then launch the game, then after the main menu screen of the game comes up on the middle monitor, plug the other monitors back in.

Sometimes this kind of stuff has more to do with what is referred to as HDMI "handshaking", than software. Then again I'm not even sure you're using HDMI.

Solution

I can try that, yeah. Do you think it will be a permanent solution though? But I suppose there's only one way to know for sure. And no, no HDMI since I lack the cables - I have 1 VGA (the one that the game launches with), DVI (main) and another DVI. This is probably a very strange setup but like I said - It's a half-baked solution using a bunch of adapters and used monitors... Heck, could be that's what causing the issue, although I doubt it since I've never had any problem and can't really see how it would in any case.

Yep! That worked.

I unplugged both of the secondary monitors but didn't re-identify via Windows settings, then launched the game. It started in the first (now unplugged) monitor as usual so I re-plugged it in, then moved the game window (it was windowed) and suddenly the option to switch to monitor 2 was there.

Exactly what fixed the issue, I have no idea. But it worked for sure - Even left the game and launched it again; Main monitor, correct resolution. Flawless solution.

Thank you!
