Wondering if my CPU is responsible for frame drop

I have a i7 950 3.07ghz cpu and a gtx 1060 for a gpu with 8 gb of ram. I have a friend that has a very similar set up as me but with a i5 7600k cpu but he gets on average 30 frames better in games than me. Even the games that are less resource intensive. I am wondering if my cpu is the cause from it bottlenecking or if it is something else probably. It should be noted that my computer is 6 years old where as my friends is brand new. My gpu is new though. I know I should be getting much better frames than what I am just don't know what to do to fix it. Thanks

Probably it's the CPU. Also, how are your temperatures?

Sorry about down voting your post, first time posting on this site and I'm on my phone for this at work so I was just clicking buttons trying to figure out how to reply. My temperatures don't go above 80°C for either my CPU or gpu I have a pretty good hest sink

Well, your friends CPU is much much much better. Also, based on a site, there is a little bottleneck.
