I am making a gaming pc from a dell studio 540 and the power supply says it is 300watts. I am buying an Intel Core Skylake Processor i5-6500 and i was also buying a gtx 1050 ti evga graphics card. I was watching a youtube video and it said that you can just stick the card in any home desktop but i was wondering whether it would fit in the pc and whether it actually needs any thing from the power supply. Furthermore with the cpu do i need more power to run it and will it be as easy as just having to put it in my pc or will it need a new motherboard. I understand this is a lot of questions but it would be much appreciated if you could reply

also make double sure whatever 1050 ti you buy does NOT need a 6-pin pcie cable
otherwise it will not work, as your 300w psu most likely does not have one

to make sure the card will fit, open the case and measure the space

run this, post back with cpu model and motherboard make and mode (it will be under the "mainboard" tab)

Most likely speaking that 300W PSU might not be enough even though it does meet the requirements on the dot. The PSU they put in those prebuild home PCS can be very low quality and aren't meant to have the extra load of an GPU. I've seen plenty of times where someone puts in a lower end graphics card such as that and their PSU will die just a few months later.

I just noticed he said buy the i5 processor. You will want to make sure it works with that motherboard. I also worry about your PSU with a newer grade processor as well.
