Wondering what to upgrade next....
My specs are:
-1 Gigabyte R929OC-4GD 4GB R9-290 OC PCI-E VGA Card (Radeon R9 290)
-Intel Core i5 4460 3.2GHz 6MB (Which I have boost clocked to 3.4GHz)
-3TB of Seagate Barracuda HDD storage (no SSD)
-Fractal Design Integra M (FD-PSU-IN3B-550W) 550Watt 80Plus Bronze Semi-Modular Power Supply Unit
-Patriot Signature 8GB RAM Kit (4Gx2) DDR3 1333
-ASRock B85M-HDS Motherboard
And I'm using the AOC 24" G2460PF 1920x1080 144 Hz monitor

From these specs, what do you think would be the most beneficial to upgrade next?

I use it mainly for first person shooters. Arma 3 is my favorite, however, I only get about 30 FPS on multiplayer. I'm looking for 60 + FPS constantly on ARMA if possible :)

I was thinking about upgrading to the GTX 1080 in the next couple of months...is it worth it considering my specs? Is it going to be better to upgrade something else first? Will I get much better performance on Arma 3?

Please note I do play other games too (like Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1 when it comes out, Black Ops 3 and Rainbow Six Siege). Also, I am a casual gamer, but am very competitive and get quite pissed off at FPS drops :)

Thanks heaps

Kind Regards

First I would get a much better quality PSU. That one is a bit on the low side, wattage wise also, given the graphics card you have. Swap it to an evga B2 750w. It is a decent quality unit, and is often priced well. After that, you could go with a better GPU. Maybe try turning some settings down. Arma 3 is quite the demanding title. http://www.techspot.com/review/712-arma-3-benchmarks/page3.html

Okay, so how will the PSU be affecting my system's performance? Also, is it worth getting a second fan, my case has a space for one? What will extra cooling do performance wise?

So is there any guarentees that a new gtx 1080 will boost my FPS by much?

Thanks for your reply

Do you mean the EVGA SuperNova 750 G2?

Okay...I've got the EVGA G2 Power Supply...16GB of G-Skill Ripjaws X...and a 480G Sandisk Ultra II SSD. I'm just wondering if my intel 4460 CPU may be bottle-necking. I don't plan on upgrading my monitor from 144hz 1080p any time soon. So...Intel 4790K vs GTX 1080 ?
