I have a new PC (i13700,gigabyte970,ram) and have reused some relatively new components 1000w PSU/M2. SSD/2xRTX GPU etc.
The problem is that when I shut down the machine it appears to shut down however the pwr LED stays on and the system will not boot or force reset from the power button. A quick unplug and power button hold (30s) does not resolve the problem, it requires at least 10 mins (approx) of being disconnected from power before it powers up correctly. I am curious as to the inner workings of MB and CPU as to the exact way the reset/force reset is handled by modern hardware. Does the MB force shutdown require CPU?

You should be able to drain the flea power from it by unplugging it and pressing and holding the power button like you are doing but it doesn't always work.

1) Does your motherboard have a physical reset button on it? Some of the newer ones do. What is the exact make/model of your motherboard so we can get a better idea of what you are working with?

Have you possibly connected the PWR button to the reset header on the motherboard
and the reset button to the pwr header?
An easy mistake to make.
I do not believe so, when unit is powered on I can force a power off and then start the pc normally. I have not connected the reset header...

double check.
Verify which pins are the correct PWR pins by orienting the empty pin position on the header.
I think if you are connecting to the reset pins, you would get symptoms similar to what you described.
Try connecting the reset cable to the pwr buttons instead.
Sometimes front panel cables are not marked properly.

Or , try powering on by shorting the two pwr pins with a screwdriver.

Hi Geofelt, I can conform the PWR SW pins are in the correct place and nothing is connected to the reset pins on the motherboard. Do you have any insight into whether hard reset from power sw is handled by the CPU or the motherboard chipset?

Hi @hedwar2011, somehow I missed your response. It is a Gigabyte z790 aorus elite ax mb. It does have a HW reset SW on the MB. This functions no differently than the one on the case.
