Hello,
so I have a new build, which works fine (windows on ssd, extra hdd). However I have a HDD from my old pc (from 2010), when I attach this to the pc (sata 3gbps port).

The pc won't boot to post screen (forgot to add that in the title, it does power on). All i see is a black screen with A2 in the lower right hand corner, it stays like this until I shut it down. That HDD is 100% working (checked with other pc). All it contains is data (photo's etc.) no programs (there have never been programs/Os's on it) and it is only 1 full 1tb partition.

Also when I set the sata port to enable hotswap, and I connect the HDD AFTER the pc has booted, it works fine and I can acces all my files.
The problem only occurs when attached before boot...

I checked everything in the bios (which is on stock settings except the boot sequence and enabled hotswap option). The SSD is #1 in the bootsequence, everything else is disabled, however I don't know how the bios/uefi perceives the old HDD when attached because I can't get into bios when I boot with it attached..

Also I've googled for days, can't find anything.

my build:
MSI B85-G41 PC Mate;
GeIL 4 GB DDR3-1600 x3; samsung 840 evo 120gb; Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST2000DM001, 2TB; intel i5-4670K ; asus xonar dg; Seasonic G 550W;

-> Hitachi 1tb hdd; Windows 8.1

I hope this is conform the guidelines/rules
thanks...

1. Make sure in the BIOS boot sequence that the first boot device is actually the SSD, and not the HDD.

2. If the HDD partition is set as "Active", change this to "Inactive". Only boot volumes need to be Active, and having more than one Active volume on internal drives at boot time can confuse the system. You can change the HDD "Active" flag to "Inactive" in Disk Management.

Thanks for the reply,

I marked the HDD as inactive however this did not change anything, the problems persists.

And like I said, the boot sequence is set with the SSD @ #1 and all other positions disabled, however when the old HDD is attached I dont see POST, just a black screen, so i cant change the settings (if it somehow changes when its attached).
