I am stuck please can someone help. I have all my documents on a second drive. They have been on external hard drives and been backed up and syc'd (with goodsynce) for many years. They are now on a lovely brand new 2tb seagate inside the machine. I run the operating systems and programs of an additional SSD

My Problem
If i double click a word document (.doc) on this internal seagate drive word hangs. Windows wont shut down and I have to power off. If I copy the same document onto the desk top and double click it, word opens fine. If i save the .doc back to the desk top and then drag it back to the G drive and double click the document on the g drive it then works fine.

I'm running windows 10 on a brand new system that other wise works fantastically.

Thanks in advance.
Tim

Photoshop and execl documents all open fine from the g drive

Solution
You could try uninstalling & reinstalling Office. Or you could just copy your documents to the C: drive if they aren't too large to fit comfortly.

Good luck.
What version of Word are you using? if 2016 have you run the updater recently?

see if this helps: right click start button
choose command prompt (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter

this scans system files and may fix this behaviour

I am using word 2013. Thanks for the suggestion. I ran sfc scannow on the c drive and the g drive where the files reside.
Its as if the file I double click on the g drive has a little pointer on it saying where the file is and word sits there looking for it, but is looking in the wrong place. I cant understand why if I copy the file to the desk top it opens perfectly.
