Word will not open saved files from my documents/ files from emails etc.

When I try to open a word document by double clicking a file saved in my documents, word opens but does not load any content (not even a blank page) whilst all panels along the top, bar the 'file' menu, are unable to be clicked. Word will sit like this for as long as you leave it, with no error messages appearing. When I go to file - open - and select a recent document, only then does it open, although not all my documents are on this list and when trying to open a document which are recieved from emails, it refuses to open and will instead sit on this empty word document with all icons locked. How do I resolve this issue?

Fully licensed and fairly new. I ran the diagnostics that word provides and it now seems to be working again...not entirely sure what happened, but hopefully it won't happen again! Thanks!
