Would my activity on work laptop be tracked if I logged into work domain but used own Internet connection from home?

You are going to have to be a little more clear on what you plan to do. Are you trying to access your work PC remotely or do you mean you took the work pc to your house. Partially this is all going to depend how you gain access to your corporate network either to get to the pc or get onto the domain.

Taking the work pc to my house. Not sure what you mean with gaining access to the network though....I log onto a user account that was provided by my company. Then using my own Internet connection ( not a VPN) would they be able to track/monitor my activity?

You are not then technically logging into the domain because you cannot access the domain from your house. You are just using a cache userid credential in the machine.

Obviously if you don't used private browser or clear the cache and stuff there will be records left. You would also have to clear any firewall logs that were set to track all access. Now this all assumes there is no secret key logger or something they have installed.

In most cases companies only care what you do if they can get a lawsuit because of it. Surfing porn from home on a work computer does not violate the hostile workplace rules. Also any file theft you do from your house will come back on you well before they go after a company.

Ok, thank you. What about when reconnecting to the network? Will everything log onto their monitoring software program? (Kinda like catching up with what was done while off network)

Fairly unlikely. Almost all monitoring is not done on the end device because the users can bypass it. They normally monitor passively on the network with some form of firewall or even a proxy.

Not to say they can't work that way. If for example the software firewall on the machine logs all sessions it could upload the logs. But it really doesn't do a lot of good if the users can stop the firewall process.

I've been telecommuting for quite some time for staff.com and we have a way of tracking activities during work hours. To be able to have your hours worked payable, you need to log in to our time tracking software called time doctor. It will track every minute spent on each activity to monitor our productivity. It also generates reports such as poor time usage and all the websites visited and applications used during your work period. It also has random screenshots to make sure that your doing work related activities. And most of all, it automatically logs you off once become idle for a couple of minutes. 😉
