I'll be upgrading in the future from a netbook, as I can't bear continue using it as my main device (ASUS 1015BX). I expect the laptop that will replace it to have at least 14 inches, a nice keyboard and if possible good battery life. The tasks I would be using it for would initially be the ones I use this one for: browsing, answering emails, and writing. If it could handle some basic movie making and image manipulation, that would be awesome too.

I want it to be able to run decently STALKER (all of them, including Call of Prypiat), as it's one of my favorite games and I can only play it on PC. What kind of specs/specific models should I be aiming for?

Thanks in advance

If $800 is not out of your price range, then I recommend the 15.6" Dell Latitude 3540 which has a Core i5-4210u and Radeon HD 8850m (AMD Venus Pro) and it has a 1920x1080 display. It comes installed with Win 7 Pro, and you also get a license for Win 8 Pro. Like just about every business laptop the screen is matte rather than glossy so that you can use it outside on a bright day. However, that also means that colors do not "pop" like glossy screens which tends to over saturate colors.

The Radeon HD 8850m is basically between the GT 840m and GT 755m which is decent enough to run many games at 1600x900 with medium or low settings. Playing games at 1366x768 resolution means you can...

Playing games at 1366x768 resolution means you can basically use high settings for many games. At full resolution you are looking low settings for many current games unless they are not very graphically demanding.

This is the laptop that I am currently using. The only game that I really play with it is Star Trek Online, but I have tested Mass Effect 3 on it and I know that Skyrim can be played on it without any issues. STALKER is an older game so this laptop should not have any problems with that game.

Thanks for the suggestion you presented. Actually, I think I'll be patient and to build a gaming/entertainment desktop in order to have better performance. I'm pointing to a lower budget, so I think I'll do with a system that has that same CPU (i5-4210u), and an 840M as GPU. It seems "decent" enough, there were many models with the 8670M and the R5 M230, but if the information I checked shows the 840M performs better than those. Thanks again
