Workaround for SSD in old setup

I'm currently using an old 80GB Intel X25-M and I need a little more capacity, so I'd like to get a 250GB Samsung 840 Evo in there. Problem is, my motherboard only supports SATA 2. I can live with bottlenecking the drive if I have to, but I'd far prefer to not hold back its performance.

So I was thinking about a PCI-E SATA 3 adapter. Problem with that is that my motherboard doesn't support booting from PCI-E. Is there some kind of a workaround, maybe some way of starting to boot my current SSD via traditional SATA connection, but instead of booting an OS, it starts the Samsung booting instead?

Connecting one drive to two ports?

There's not really that much money to be saved with a slower drive. I could pay a bit less if I went with a Crucial M500 or MX100 but it's no huge saving and I'd like Samsung's software and pseudo-SLC thing.

Could you link? My list of boot options includes USB floppy drives, USB hard disks, LAN and all the usual stuff but no PCI-E.
