Question Working headphones but no sound when plugged in

I've been through the lot with this one and it's frustrating me.

I have a working set of headphones tested in my laptop, I have working audio through speakers, but when I plug in the headphones to the front jack of my PC there's no sound coming through.

I have tried windows generic drivers, the latest realtek drivers, uninstalling devices, disabling, enabling, the lot - but nothing seems to help at all.

Any clues would be appreciated.

First, welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What is the make and model of your headphones? We're going to need to know the specs to your desktop. We will also need you to see if you have any BIOS updates pending for your desktop and which version of Windows 10 you're currently on.

Worth adding that they just stopped working, possibly due to a windows update no doubt, and that they have worked perfectly fine before

Yes that is for sure worth adding, how about any other headphones or speakers, through that same jack? Or if you use the motherboard jack for the headphones? Does the audio software even see the headphones connected as a device you can switch to?
