Workstation as a gaming pc?

So i've looked into getting a HP workstation xw6600 2x quadcore Xeon E5450 with 4gbs ram (immediate upgrade to at least 16) and 250gb hdd (immediate upgrade to 750gb) which doesn't seem to bad.
I just had a few generic questions i was wondering if you could answer?
Can this workstation run new and intensive games (with a decent gpu) or is the dual quad cpus just too old?
Can i put something like a 1050ti in it (the motherboard supports 2 PCI Express x16 Gen2 graphics
2 PCI Express (x8 mechanically, x4 electrically) not sure if that helps though.
Any other suggestions or helpful comments would be greatly appreciated as well.

Sure, you can game on this system and using a GTW 1050 ti should be possible. However, you won't be able to OC the system so performance will be limited. A modern, single CPU system will also out-perform this rig as well.

my other option is using an i5 3470 so which would you suggest? i'm not considering or planning to overclock.

3470 would be a much better system especially for gaming.

And as long as it has a updated BIOS or a 7 series chipset you will have support for a GPU like 1050 Ti

Unlikely, that card would require a UEFI BIOS and that system I can almost guarantee you wont have one.

Any decent graphics card you could suggest that could work? I alos though the 1050ti had legacy support so it could be used on older systems that dont have uefi bios?

Such an old system. Don't buy it for gaming

You are really stuck with something Pre the 700 series from nvidia on such an old system.
