Hello,

I would like to build a new workstation.

Will use the desktop for:
- Photoshop
- Administration (software)
- Web development/design
- Website optimalisation
- Social Media
- Online marketing

Im not going to overclock the system. This is what I got at the moment:

I will replace the Cooler Master silencio with the 352 model.
Also the Power supply will be: Seasonic G-Series 360W.
The cpu cooler will be: Gelid Solutions Tranquillo Rev.2.
That LG monitor will be: LG IPS277L-BN

I have chosen this gpu because the tasks I will be doing don't really need a gpu and this one has passive cooling.
Also ive chosen this cooler because it's quieter.

Please tell me what you think and post your suggestions, Im not a computer expert and would like to get the most out of it. Do I need something like a card reader?

Thanks in advance!

nothing wrong with your build, this is what i would do, bit of a better gpu for photoshop, higherpower psu but still made with seasonic components, cheaper ram, and you probably know that it isnt neccesary to buy an aftermarket cooler for that cpu cause its not overclockable but it will be quieter so i would do the same. if you could an i7 would probably be a worthy upgrade but up to you and your budget.

I was wondering what would be the best cpu for this system and ive checked these ones aswell:
- Intel Core i7 4770 Boxed
- Intel Xeon E3-1225 v3 (SR14U) Boxed
- Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 Boxed
- Intel Xeon E3-1240 v3 Boxed

From what ive heard is that a cpu with Hyperthreadin will not add very big advantage.

Don't you think the i5 will be faster since the tasks I will be doing won't have alot of profit from the hyperthreadin? Are these parts compatible as I configured them?

No that's not true - a CPU with hyperthreading will be huge for a workstation. CS5 and 6 take full advantage of Intel hyperthreading, however a Xeon E3 will not be really of use unless you're setting up a server. A 360W PSU will not power that rig. This is what I would do:

$300 cheaper and you get a top of the line GPU for Photoshop, you also get Windows 7 Pro which lifts the 16GB RAM ceiling (necessary for CS5), better case and power supply, and the i7-4770.

Thanks for your input! Isn't the price for the gpu and Western Digital HDD to much? I won't be doing any video editing or something. Also the HDD which ive chosen has the same specs but is 2 TB for the same price.

$2000-$2500 is my budget incl. a screen or 2 screens.

I think such expensive gpu is abit of a waste since I won't be needing it for most things I do, except for photoshop and dreamweaver. I can buy a dell 27inch ultrasharp and lg ips 27inch for that ammount of money.

So is there maybe some other gpu that you would recommend? I will probably go for the i7 btw.

Oh no not at all, IMO the GPU is one of the most important parts of the system - no matter if you're playing games, rendering or doing CS5 work, and that's the one area where you don't want to skimp. Storage is all relative to the user, I typically feel the best is 128GB SSD - 1 - 2TB HD. But then again that all depends on what you plan to do with your system.

No for those fine Photoshop redraws (not to mention if you use a ton of 3rd party plug ins), or if you plan to run an ultra high res (2560 x 1440) or ultra wide (2560 x 1080) monitor then you need a solid GPU, a GTX 650 just won't cut it. You would be doing yourself a huge disservice if you skimp on your GPU. I would personally go the ultra wide route for your monitor - I work with AutoCAD and I've found that having your toolbars moved as far over as possible gives you more room to work with.

So is there maybe some other gpu that you would recommend? I will probably go for the i7 btw.

I suppose you could use a GTX 770 but for professional workstations a Quaddro K4000 or Fire Pro V5800 or V7900 will be the best for a professional workstation. These cards are made to work with the fine redraws that heavy duty CS5 or CS6 work requires.

Alright you convinced me. To bad the card is very expensive in my country. Im from the Netherlands and it's €670,- here that is $900,-.

For how long will that system be update proof you think?

Oh you should say that you're from the Netherlands next time as that will help us help you find a better system based on what's available in your country. But if that GPU is too expensive then maybe go for the Fire Pro v5800 instead. It will still get the job done and allow you to hook up to multiple displays.

that one is 500euro. for how long will it be update proof. and just out of curiosity this is not a gaming gpu right.

Yeah it's not a gaming GPU it's still a professional workstation GPU. But you shouldn't have to upgrade for several years with that setup.

No, the Fire Pro and Quadra are both workstation GPUs and it would probably be update proof for 2~6 years. (honestly!)

sucks that these cards are expensive in the netherlands and also hard to get. ive checked the most common sites for hardware. tweakers.net and hardware.info but without good results. ive found the amd version but not the ati ones.
