Workstation motherboard for XEON MP

Hi all,

do any of you know whether there is any "workstation" class motherboard (dual cpu and AGP/PCIe) compatible with XEON MP 3GHz, 4MB level3, 400Mhz FSB and socket 603?

Do you mean AGP AND PCIe compatable? No boards exist in the workstation segment, and the AGP slots of desktop PCIe boards are not even true AGP slots.

Hi Crashman, and thx for your post.

I mean EITHER AGP or PCI-express.
This page http://www.intel.com/products/server/processors/server/xeon/index.htm?iid=ipp_srvr_proc+xeonmp& from Intel states there IS NO workstation chipset and only the ServerWorks GC-HE server chipset. This page though http://support.intel.com/support/processors/xeon/sb/CS-007758.htm#System says "The Intel Xeon processor MP is not designed to be compatible with either the I860 or the E7500 chipsets. Any attempt to use I860 or the E7500 chipsets with the Intel Xeon processor MP is considered a non supported configuration." making me conclude it _might_ work in dual configurations??? Further I have written to SuperMicro asking the very same question and the answer was: "officially unsupported, system will run but will cause unstable enviroment".
So is the "non supported configuration" and "unstable environment" simply terms used for making people shelling big bucks out for the quad mobos?

Am I totally wrong on this? I have googled quite a lot without being able to find other sources of information.

Hi Rich,

and thank you for your replies. I think you are wrong though as I asked about the XEON MP neither the Xeon DP or simply Xeon processor. But if you do have any other sources besides the suppliers documentation I would appreciate it a lot.

Well, of all those boards the PC-DL is the more PC-like, so I expect it to be the least likely to notice the difference between the Xeon/DP/MP.
