You can easily run WoW on a $300 setup (using an AMD X2 proc).

I think Nvidia actually renders WOW better. Look at the benchmarks below.

However any midrange card will run the game just fine. It is just a matter of how high you want to push up the graphics.

My old Sapphire HD 4870 ran the game beautifully when I had it. No glitches or anything. I had a very enjoyable time playing WOW on it for about 2 years.

Questions:
■What resolution are you planning on playing the game?
■How much $$$ are you willing to spend?
■Are you considering Crossfire or SLI?

Yeah for the price , in my personal opinion, you should get the ati hd 5770. Its cheap and stays at 60 fps at all times on wow. It has amazing video quality. Actually IH8U has the perfect budget build for wow if your on a small budget.

Not bad but you are really going to want a better processor. WoW isn't very graphic intensive so an HD6770 is fine but that Athlon II x2 is going to keep frame rates under 40. If you want to keep the price about the same then a Phenom II x2 is about $20 more and the odds are very good(about 75%) that it will unlock into a x4. Alternately just get a 955 and a cheaper AM3 motherboard. Bulldozer seems rather unimpressive anyway.

Here are the World of Warcraft CPU benchmarks:

You are definitely going to want a Quad Core Processor if your budget will allow.

The Intel Core I-5 2500k will give you the best bang for your buck.

AMD's FX processors are not advisable (for the price or performance) as the previous Phenom II generation beats them in some World of Warcraft benchmarks.

Thinking of 1920X1080 monitor resolution
running the intel core I-5 2500k because of its better framerates in wow. Going with the geforce gtx 550 TI 1gb graphics card and 8gb of RAM (unsure of brand)
In terms of budget, trying to keep it all around 800.

I'm looking for thoughts on motherboards and hard drives, not thinking I have the money for SSD

If you just want to play WoW, just get any old LGA 1155 motherboard. They will not affect the performance of the game at all, go cheap IMO. as for hard drives, that's up to you. Their performance is pretty much all about the same unless you want to go spending ALOT of money on one.. but just get a 1tb hard drive and you will be all set.
