World of Warcraft low FPS

Back in January I upgraded my video card from a Sapphire 4870 1gb to a Sapphire 6970 2gb. The different was incredible, although the 4870 was the best card when I bought it. Anyways, that's not the point. Back before Cataclysm I was averaging about 100 fps while questing and about 60 in raids with my 4870. And although I quit before Cataclysm came out, my best friend still plays. When he comes over I want him to have the best experience possible with WoW. I know that they tweaked the graphics a bit for cataclysm, however I only manage to get about 45 fps max. And that's with shadows lowered a little bit. What's up with this bad FPS? It's not like my card should have any problem whatsoever running WoW at max settings.

Intel i7 920 OC 3.63 ghz
6gb corsair ram
Sapphire 6970 2gb
2x 1tb WD in raid 0

Sorry if I made it confusing. It's the same PC. I built it in January of 2009 with the 4870, i7, etc. And in January of 2011 I swapped out the 4870 for the 6970.

Is it possible the card is defective? I built a system with the Asus EAH5770 CuCore, but it only maxed out at 60 fps. I sent it for RMA and bought a HIS H577QT1GD. My minimum frame rates in the major cities are now between 35-45 fps. Settings were high/ultra mix at 1680 x 1050 resolution.

Do you have vsync turned on. If so its going to limit your FPS to what your monitor can display. With vsync turned on I only get 60fps but with it turned off I have seen it over 200. You should be able to get the same kind of performance because you computer is better in every aspect compared to mine.

I don't think the card is defective.. Everything else I play is pretty much maxed. I play crysis 2 at Enthusiast? Or gamer, one of the two. And it runs perfect without any stuttering at all. I have a second 6970 coming for crossfire on thursday so I'll try wow again and see what happens. I mean it's not like having low framerate on wow is debilitating cause quite frankly, I don't care. But it is kind of annoying for my friends that they can't play it well when I have a new 350$ video card.

I have a 6870 HIS turbo and I run the game on ultra and get 80-100 fps in raids. I would make sure that you have vsync turned off. Also if you turn down the lightshafts and water quality to high or good, the next one below ultra will make a huge difference in your FPS.

There is a defective GPU or something else I have a over clocked 6950 and it stays pegged at 60FPS with vsync on only going to 40FPS in the big citys. So yours should be the same or better plust you have a better CPU than me. And im not using DX11 or anything just plain starting the game and I have every possible tab maxed out and every option turned that I can find lol.

Almost positive WOW's max fps now is 60. Have you downloaded all the latest drivers?
I had an issue with my settings and fps with WoW before I updated my drivers. If you already have you should still have a bit higher fps I'd imagine..

I use the highest settings in all categories on WoW and usually run a constant 60fps.. but occasionally will drop to 40-50 in heavy populated areas or during pvp... using a geforce gts 450 1gb ddr5.

Wow will go as high as you let it with FPS if you use v-sync it will cap at 60fps 95% of the time. If i turn v-sync off i get about 110 fps

i think what you need to do is set up WoW to use DX11 only, there is no option for it, so you either need to edit the "properties" area or run a line of code each time you enter the game, google it... with that card you will get better frames with DX11 as opposed to DX10

wait, wich one do you have you mention a 5770 and 6970... either way, try dx 11 mode, should help with both those cards getting some extra fps

Didnt know about the DX11 button ill have to check that out Do you see any difference in the look of the game wile that option is on?

DX 11 only improves the water and fluid emulations. They do look really good though.
If you have a low end GPU they can slaughter your performance.

The good thing is you don't have a low end card.

From my experience your setup should rip through WOW like a hot knife through butter.

Here's what I would do in your position.

1) track-down the make and model of your motherboard, and upgrade the BIOS. When it comes to graphics card performance problems this can help a lot if your running an older version.

2) Then update your graphics card to the latest possible, and make sure you install the additional driver for parallel processing. This doesn't come with the CCC suit but you can find it on the same page. Install the latest CCC suit first then the parallel processing driver.

3) shut down and restart.

4) Boot up WOW and enable V-sync. Its pointless to go higher than 60fps ir your monitors refresh rate is 60mhz.

Monitor refresh rate = maximum FPS without screen tearing.

Then disable triple buffering.

Then set it to ultra or extreme and see what happens.

I am running 2x Xeon 5160's @3ghz with a GTX 470 and play at 1600 x 1200 resolution with ultra settings applied and get 50-60fps everywhere.

If this shows an improvement but you are still not happy then adjust the AA in the CCC control panel. Make small adjustments to this (moving towards performance rather that quality) then see the effect in WOW.

Spend some time now balancing this all up and you wont regret it.
