I quit wow because i got so tired of arena and bgs. they are the worst invention in wow's history. sitting there for 3 hours in a box "pvping", or running around like a dumb idiot over the map carrying some flag or fighting over "resources" *** outta here!! i miss world pvp and it will never be the same again because world pvp does not = profit. and we all know blizzard only cares about the bucks.

so i recently heard that eve online has world pvp in it. is this true? anyone actually plays this game? it came out in 2003. do people today still play it??? let me know because world pvp is the only reason why i would even play mmorpg.

thanks...

I have played Eve for about 6 years now and I can confirm there is open world PvP. All though it is a little more complicated than that.

The space in Eve is graded by the 'security status' of a system and this is how it works:

1.0 High Security (Safe Space)
0.0 Null Security (Lawless Space)

1.0 - 0.5 is considered Safe space all though you do get people suicide killing other players (rsk vs reward)

0.4 - 0.1 is considered low security space. You can pirate here and PvP but you will take security hit on your player and effectivly become a pirate, if your player security status drops you will not be able to go to safe space and you will have a kill on site tag.

0.0 you can do anything without consiquence, all though you have...

0.0 you can do anything without consiquence, all though you have alliances that controls parts of 0.0 which are player owned.

Each 'area' has different play styles and the Eve universe is one server and one shard. One thing I will say is that eve is very complicated to start with and you will have to go through the new player phase. If you stick with it it is a good game.

Eve is great fun and a couple more tips, join a corporation, dont trust anyone apart from your corp mates as it is full of scammers. If you are going to "carebear" (mining, mission running) then expect pirates / can flippers to come and ruin your day. But that is part of the fun! I for one am a dirty smelly pirate and love the delicious tears extracted from carebears when you smash their mining ship up because they were stupid enough to goto "lowsec" without an escort. Never use autopilot, use it to plot your detination and then manually fly gate to gate. To get an idea of the shenanigans within eve have a look at the crime and punishment thread on the eve forums, use battleclinic and various forums to make a decent fit for your ship, (never mix gun types etc). Oh and go for a pvp corp as it is a great buzz and mining must be soooo fekkin boring. Have fun in eve and go get some tears!

what i dont get is the gameplay style. im used to the live action pvp where you move around, strike/shoot at your will, run away a lil (im a mage in wow) and nuke people out of proportion. hell even in counter strike its live. this game's style is odd as hell. you click on a ship, lock, then "attack" botton. then you juust watch as your ship shoots and the ship with stronger weapons wins. i read somewhere that if you "stick it out" through the game it will be fun after a while, but... how the hell can this be fun when the gameplay is so boring? ahhh... ill play it a lil more but still kinda disappointed to be honest even though i love the environment
