Worth buying 5 year old CPU?

I got this crappy AMD CPU, and i wanted to upgrade. ive been looking at the i5 4460 and just as i was about to buy it, my friend wanted to sell me his i7-2600 with mobo for a cheaper price than the i5 with mobo (if i wouldve bought it). so thats pretty nice. only thing is, the mobo is 1 year old and the CPU is 5 years old. now, he hasnt tampered with it (e.g. overclocking or stuff like that.) and also hasnt messed with the mobo. it is basicly brand new. is it worth buying or are the risks too high?

If he's giving it to you for a good price then I would go for it as its still a good CPU and can be paired with a high end GPU without issues.
