Worth installing SSD on SATA 3gb/s interface?

Hello!
I've been looking at getting an SSD, but my motherboard only supports SATA 3gb/s. Both of my current HDDs are 6gb/s capable. My question is, will I see the benefit of using an SSD over a 3gb/s interface or would I be better served by upgrading the motherboard to a 6gb/s capable model first?

I went from a HDD to a SSD on a 3gb/s SATA and noticed a huge difference.

Boot times and program load times are much faster.

Youll see a good jump with 3gbps but jump all the way and get it to 6gbps it will be way faster than 3gbps

Yes, it is definitely worth installing a solid state drive in a pc system that only has SATA 2 3Gb/s capabilities. You will see and experience a definite improvement when compared to hard disk drives.

The newer SATA 3 6Gb/s ssd's are backward compatible with SATA 2 3Gbs/s so there won't be any problems. There will be a performance hit but you shouldn't notice it that much. You'll also be ready whenever you decide to upgrade your motherboard.

BTW - What is the brand name and model of your motherboard? There are couple of really old motherboards with really old controllers and really old chipsets that do not play nice with modern ssd's. There are only a few but it pays to check first.

Indeed. I couldn't get a SATAII Intel SSD 320 to work on a MSI P6N (SATAI) mobo at all.

Thans folks. The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H- only 18 months old so should be OK I think.

Aside from in benchmarks, I doubt you'll see much difference between a modern SSD running on a 3 gigabit interface vs a 6 gigabit. Boot times and program load times are likely to be about the same in both cases. In other words, it's absolutely worth it, even on a 3 gigabit SATA.

I run my SSDs on SATA 3 Gb/s ports without any problem, the only thing is sequential performance which is limited, but not often used. I have a Samsung 830 in my notebook which a can recommend, it is cheap, fast and reliable.

I'm looking on installing a SSD on my X58 Pro (MS-7522) MSI motherboard. It's a couple years old. Could there be any compatibility issues?
