Worth investing in DDR4?

I have read in many places that if you're a gamer or even just not running real memory intensive stuff, there's no real need to rush towards upgrading from DDR3 to DDR4.

I'm using DDR2. :sarcastic:

I built my machine around 8 years ago, and have thusfar gotten by only upgrading the graphics card and getting a new power supply a couple of times. But I think it's time has come, and I'm looking to put this soldier to rest for a new wave.

So as someone who does not already own a decent machine running DDR3, would you say it is worth sinking the extra cash in to making the leap to DD4? I would obviously love my machine to last a solid 8 years again, so my gut says yes. But when throwing around this much money I figure it never hurts to ask for a few outside opinions.

Not worth it. RAM doesn't affect gaming performance that much. DDR3 will be more than fast enough for years to come. Spend the extra money on CPU and GPU rather than on DDR4 RAM and a Mobo that supports it.

DDR4 is only used on X99 right now which is prohibitively expensive and aimed more towards high end business type computing - it can be a good choice, but if primarily thinking gaming and lighter computing tasks would look to the 1150 socket - maybe an Asus Z97-A and 4670K based rig
