i'm wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to a gtx 680, based on what i already have and the price of upgrading. this is the one i've been looking at, based on what i've read:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127693

if i'm going to upgrade, i want it to be worth it, and i want it to last a while before i have to upgrade again. also, i've heard that Nvidia has better drivers than AMD, which is a plus if it's true (or is it a rumor?).

anyways, would upgrading for my setup be worth it, both in price and performance?

Im sure you will hear it from others, but at that price point, its not worth it in my opinion. You would be better off with a 670. I have always enjoyed Nvidia for the fact that they are on top of driver updates moreso than AMD has in the past. But AMD has made strides in this department as of late.

Hey man.

So I recently purchased a EVGA GTX 680 2GB, and im very happy with it. I was in the same predicament as you, and nearly went for the GTX 670 or the 7970 (the 7970 was tempting with free Infinite and Crysis 3, but I hate the download time and I want Infinite Premium edition).

I read and watched so many reviews, most of them saying: "The GTX 670 is just as good as the GTX 680 if you overclock it, no point in getting the GTX 680." But I decided to go with the 680 and im glad I did. In reality, sure you can get close to the same performance with a fully overclocked 670... but what about a fully overclocked 680? Well its a beast, and well worth the extra cash.

My recommendation for you: Get the GTX 680, from the links you have posted it looks like you want to crank up the setting, FPS and are ready to spend $500. There is no reason to spend the extra cash on a tricked out 670 when you can get a baseline 680 and overclock it for about the same price.

I have my 680 running on my Dell XPS 8500 (crap motherboard to answer your question if yours will work) with an upgraded 700w PSU. Been playing Crysis 3 (some parts such as the final boss battle, and more open/busy areas will lag if you have EVERYTHING at max. If you want that kind of performance your going to need about $1,000) Witcher 2, BO2, Metro 2033 maxed out with great fps, everything overclocked as high as possible. Completely stable.

Link to the card I bought, but there are cheaper 680's: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2522512&CatId=7387
