I've got one GTX 760, the superclocked, acx cooler, the fancy dancy whatchamacallits, the works.
I've got a buddy who got a 760, same one as I've got, but his case is too small, and it's going to be a long while before he can get the case he wants. He offered to sell me the card for $125, normally it's around $250. Is it worth it to grab it and SLI them? I do a lot of rendering and video editing, and I'm currently pushing my card with 3 1080 monitors playing BF4.
Bottom line: Is it worth it?
My current specs:
Intel i7 4790S - 4.2Ghz
MSI Z97-G45
16GB Corsair Vengeance 2133Mhz
EVGA GTX 760SC-4GB
Creative SoundBlaster ZxR
2x1TB Seagate Barracuda
250 GB SSD
PC Power and Cooling 600W PSU
Corsair 300R Case

Solution
I wouldn't recommend it.

1) 2xGTX760 will roughly match the GTX970 in frame rate with half decent scaling.

2) SLI isn't perfect, and doesn't even work with some games.

3) Assuming you could also sell your GTX760 for $125 as well you are getting close to a GTX970 (2x$125 = $250). You can buy a GTX970 for as little as $310: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/zotac-nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-4gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card-multi/1289033.p?id=1219484418842&ref=199&loc=8BacdVP0GFs&acampID=1&siteID=8BacdVP0GFs-JTyrtyjoA1mYR0c1Ae1FMg

though I recommend THIS model: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp42974kr

4) The GTX970 has several new features such as MFAA, H.265, HDMI 4K@60FPS, voxel dyn light

5) The GTX970 will be much quieter (some can turn off fans completely in idle/low usage).

Other:
It wasn't verified if HIS card was also 4GB. If not then you only have a 2GB video framebuffer which is starting to be an issue with upcoming games.

Summary:
It really comes down to the PRO of saving a bit of money to the CONS I listed above.

Solution
I didn't say it was a perfect solution or that it was going to be future proof. I also said there may be some features that it won't support that the 970 and 980, and therefore other future models, will. But as to whether it's worth adding, for 125.00, since he's already using a single 760 anyhow and whatever two of them doesn't support, one certainly won't, it's worth the investment in my opinion.

And even if you save the 125.00 you would have invested in the second card and were able to GET another 125.00 for his current card (Which is no guarantee), he'd still need to invest another 50-75 bucks or so to get into the least expensive of the 970's. And that's all disregarding the fact that he expressed no interest in one in the first place. He simply wanted to know if another 760 was worth investing 125 bucks in which I believe it to be.

Your points are all valid though, however irrelevant they may or may not be to this particular situation.
