I have an i5 4690K Haswell, Asus Maximus VII Hero Z97 MOBO, and 16GB of ddr3 ram. Is my other stuff good enough or do I need to upgrade that as well? Thanks!
Yes, it is worth to upgrade to the 1080 Ti from the 970. You can OC your CPU (get a good cooler if you don't already have one) and get good performance. Some games will benefit from the i7-4790K.
You didn't mention your monitor resolution. At 1080p, the 1080 Ti is a bit overkill.

Depends on the resolution you play at and the frame rate your desire.
I play at 1080p. Although, I have been wanting a new monitor so idk haha. I have a 144 hz monitor so I like my competitive fps games to get the fps usually (like bf v)

I went from a GTX970 to a GTX1080 when I got my 27" 144hz 2K monitor. It is great. A 1080ti would have just been a waste of money.

At 1440p and my 1080 Ti struggles to get 144fps in most major title. I have to lower settings just a bit. Definitely not a waste of money.
AC Odyssey actually drops below 60fps sometimes on ultra settings at 1440p. Battlefield V definitely isn't getting 144fps on ultra.
