Hello there quick question...

I currently have an ASUS 27inch MX279H monitor.

https://www.amazon.com/MX279H-27-Inch-1920x1080-ICEpower-Frameless/dp/B00B17C5KO/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

My dads monitor just died and instead of him getting a new one I was going to give him this and buy a better one since he isnt as much into gaming...so my question is, is it worth for me to upgrade this monitor? Like whats the upgrade compared to a G-sync or a Free-sync. I was even thinking of possibly getting a 32 inch.. I would also like to point out that the monitor I have above is only 60Hz....

Maybe something like this..

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-34-ips-lcd-ultrawide-fhd-freesync-monitor-black/6051030.p?skuId=6051030

if anyone can find a great one from there list let me know:

Is it worth it? because he could always buy one himself for much cheaper.
I play things like PUBG, six siege, and VR.

My pc specs:
i7 7700k 4.2
16 GB ram
GTX 1080
1.5 TB SSD
Windows 10

I didn't think G-Sync would be that big of a difference, but ya, it is, and once you have it you don't want to not have it. BUT!!! Don't let that make a purchase decision. Freesync monitors ARE capable of adaptive sync, which NVidia CAN do. Right now I have a 32in 1440p va panel monitor, and it's...

The GTX 1080 is fairly capable of pushing well over 60 FPS, so the upgrade to a higher refresh rate monitor is really a must. As far as Free-sync and G-Sync, your Nvidia GPU can't use Free-Sync, it's an AMD exclusive, but G-Sync is Nvidia's exclusive refresh rate technology.

You'll want to find a G-Sync equipped (G-Sync often drives prices of monitors way up) 1080p high refresh rate monitor (120hz-240hz) or a 1440p or 4k 60hz monitor if your up for higher resolution and a bit lower FPS, 60-80 FPS usually.

4k is the same as 4 1080p monitors together, as far as pixel count goes, so yes you can see that much of a drop in certain games that are more GPU dependent.

It depends, with G-Sync on you won't see stuttering in games and it will lock the FPS to the same as the monitors refresh rate, this can introduce some latency but generally only a few MS of delay. However higher resolutions look much much nicer and for games like Fortnite you can get an advantage at being able to see farther with more detail.

Well 60-80 FPS isnt bad but would i really see that much of an image quality jump compared to this monitor to spend ~$400?

The picture is nicer than the 24/27in TN panels, it's freesync, and I have an NVidia card. No worries. Adaptive Sync to the rescue, it's not as good as G-Sync, but it is better than nothing.

That's what I'm using now, and I'm looking to pick up another pair soon to get my surround on. The smaller Dells though... You can use 3D vision flawlessly, and I've sold many of my friends on 3d gaming with that setup.

Well see personally I think the quality I have on this monitor is pretty good. I dont know if thats because Im used to it or not but what im getting at here is trying to get the most bang for my buck and actually notice a difference.

so like would i be better off getting a 32 inch 1440p 144hz or a 32inch gsync or a 32 inch 4k? Which one is going to make a difference in quality of pciture?

I find for a GTX 1080 a 120hz or 144hz ( if possible G-Sync) 1440p monitor to be the best for gaming on with your types of games, you should be able to get over 100 FPS easily at 1440p and be able to take advantage of that high refresh rate.

okay so maybe a 32inch 144hz-240hz 1440p monitor with Gync is better then a 32inch 4k...
but what is the difference between ips and tn panel types?

Nope, not one bit. The resolution is the same, the only difference is pixel density, which at 1440p most likely won't be even noticeable between the two sizes.

TN is fast, stupid fast. Like 1ms gtg times. Add to that 240hz refresh on the fastest and you're looking at playing CS:GO @ 720p with a pair of 1080Ti rockin the high Hz. IPS is the exact opposite end of the scale. GREAT picture, but slow, like 6 - 8ms gtg. Here's the thing though, a good TN panel can have just as good a picture as a bad IPS panel, and vice versa. VA panels (VA, AHVA, etc.) are somewhere in the middle, good color reproduction, moderately fast panels. For the biggest bang, I'd suggest 32in 1440p 144hz G-Sync, in that order. Don't worry too much about panel types unless you have lotsa money to go through several monitors to find the best to suit your personal setup. Everything from daylight coming in through the window to ulmb can play with picture quality, so on the higher end stuff, it's kinda moot.

It's fine, I've dealt with worse people. As for the difference I think you'll prefer IPS over TN if your a big sight see'er in games, however if you like to get very competitive with games you'll want a TN panel as you won't notice the color difference anyways while playing.

I think ill just not worry about the monitor as you are right and during gaming im not stopping and browsing the graphics enough to validate the worry.

I am just having trouble finding a 32 inch 1440p 144hz monitor with Gync thats not like 650 dollars. Is that really how much they cost? because the dell he showed me was only $369

Going up in resolution makes manufacturing the screen more costly, also G-Sync doesn't help as the G-Sync modual that is needed for G-Sync to work cost like 100+ USD PER UNIT further driving up costs of G-Sync displays. It may be more worth it to look into a non-G-sync display instead and just relying on V-Sync, the little "son" of parent's Free-Sync and G-Sync, it will often add 2-3ms of delay into the input but does pretty much the same thing that G-sync and Free-Sync does.

Yep, go ahead and grab the monitor you find is easier on the wallet ( spoiler: the non G-Sync monitors)
