Worth the upgrade? AMD 1090T to FX 8350

I was thinking of upgrading my CPU to a newer AMD chip aka the FX 8350 coming from a over clocked 1090T at 3.812ghz. I currently use a older model motherboard which is the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/usb3.

Is it worth upgrading to this newer CPU? And do I need to buy a new MOBO or can I update my BIOS to make it compatible? Also, I do not plan on buying the newer chips of the FX 9... as they seem WAY to power hungry and just not worth the upgrade and if I get the FX 8350 I will be attempting a 5ghz to 5.2ghz over clock.

Just look at the numbers according to Passmark CPU Benchmarks and judge for yourself if the CPU upgrade is worth it... As they say: "numbers don't lie"!! So it looks like well worth it to me.

Your motherboard is a AM3 socket and yes it will need a BIOS update to run the AM3+ FX8350 CPU. To overclock the CPU to 5GHz+ you will probably need to get a AM3+ motherboard.

Absolutely worth it! You could get the 8320 and invest in a good motherboard with good VRM for better and more effective overclocking. You will have to change the motherboard as it is not compatible with AM3+ CPU's.

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($159.67 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($84.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $244.66

The 1090T is a good chip. If you were not planning on heavily overclocking it, I'd say no, but with the overclock you are planning...maybe?

JUST IN CASE you didn't realize it, you'll have to upgrade your mobo as well, it's only an AM3 and the FX8350 needs an AM3+. I'd also look into water cooling...

It's worth it for benchmarking and overclocking if that's the increase in results you desire. It's also fun to have new parts and do a partial new build. But in gaming this upgrade won't do much of anything for you.

The perf you would get wouldn't be enough to justify the upgrade.

If you want to go AMD and you can wait a while, get steamroller to get some better single threaded performance as the current fx chips have barely improved in that regard from phenom II.
If you want it now, go with an i5 probably as they are a similar price to the 8350 but provide much better perf per thread and are generally better for gaming (I am assuming this is for gaming).

Sadly you cannot flash your bios to support fx chips as your mobo has an AM3 socket, which means you will have to replace your board to use an fx chip

Do you run something that is unsatisfactory performance wise
you know this new cpu will improve on to the point you are satisfied?
You will have to check with your motherboard vendor about cpu compatibility with the latest bios revision.
If the answer to either is no, then no, its not really worth upgrading
amd's once flagship to, erm, a newer flagship until the board turns up its toes.

Even sadder still ( and I am not having a pop at anybody but A.M.D. here,)
is the fact for 12 months I have been reading posts poo poo ing intel because
socket A.M.3 will give your system a future proof upgrade path beyond (insert any intel quad k chip) ..
etc etc etc. What a load of (insert own smelly expletive).
Sorry if its off topic, but its the middle of the nite and no one cares.

Thanks for the replies, as a general concensus it is very back and fourth. Maybe I will wait for the steamroller chips to come out then. Is there a release date announced yet or because of the "new" chips FX 9... will I not see it for a few more months?
