I currently have a 8700k CPU paired with a GTX 1080 Windforce GPU and am wondering if ya'll think it would be worth upgrading the CPU to a 9700 or even 9900k CPU. Would it be better to overclock either of them? I am an itching for an upgrade but do not want to if it is unnecessary.

Would updating to a better ram be more worth it if I currently have 16GB? Or from a 144hz to a 240hz monitor? Sorry for the many questions, I have a few extra bucks to put towards an upgrade but would appreciate some feedback from others.

Absolutely no to upgrading now, or even in the immediate future.

No for all these. If you don't do anything other than gaming, the extra 2 cores from the 9900K will be useless.

RAM speed on Intel isn't as important as it is on ryzen 3rd gen. you'll get 1-2% improvement going from 2400 to 3200mhz.
I wouldn't upgrade the CPU since there only a few games which use 6 or 8 cores.
Going from 144hz to 240hz monitor won't give you as impressive results as going from 60 to 144hz. So, its not really worth it. Unless you are a pro and every little improvement you can get might increase your chance of wining then yeah, its probably worth it.

Your CPU is good enough already. If you have a good overclocking board, just overclock it responsibly to 5 ghz and just use that and wait. You don't even need to get 10th gen 10900k. I would wait until Rocket Lake and get a Z590 board for your upgrade, and a rocket lake CPU.

By the way, going from 2400 mhz RAM to 3200 mhz gives a -substantial- boost to your minimum FPS, provided the timings are tight enough. Sure your max and averages won't be much higher but your minimums will be.
