Worth to upgrade 780ti SLI to 1070ti/1080 for 1440p gaming?

Im playing Black desert online atm on 1440p getting 60-70 FPS on 144hz screen.

so just wonder if i can get 100+ fps with 1070ti or 1080

Solution

It's all going to depend on each games individual optimization. Some games will perform relatively the same and others the 1080 is going to win by a large margin.

The step up to even a 1070 is about a 50% increase in relative performance.

While that's not a guarantee of linear +50% on everything, even it should get you close/above 100FPS.

A 1070TI/1080 would be 65-80+% relative improvements.

Assuming same resolution/in-game settings stay consistent, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't get to ~144FPS with either a 1070TI or 1080.

In games that use a SLI profile you won't see a huge increase, but in games without it you will obviously see a large increase in fps. Also with the 1070ti you get the 8gbs of vram which is going to set you up well for the future so I would say it's worth it if you have the money.

Sorry, I missed the fact this was 780TI in SLI.

From what I can find, the games approx SLI scaling is in the +30-50% range.

So, between the added VRAM buffer and the fact the relative gains are somewhere around 30-60% above the SLI performance, I would still say yes... it's a solid upgrade and should get you to where you want to be.

FTFY.

Those are cherry-picked titles with extremely good SLI scaling. Not necessarily a representation of every title with SLI "support".

Oh, absolutely. But that specific YT video clearly cherry-picked those titles. BF1 and Crysis3, for example are probably the 'best' modern(ish) titles for SLI support.

Black desert seems to vary card to card too.
Cards like 970's see some pretty high scaling, based on videos I can find on YT. 1080p Ultra with 970/SLI, 40-50FPS vs 80FPS SLI (average).
Reports would suggest other cards, 570's and 680's specifically.... where scaling is <30%.

The title does appear to at least favor Nvidia multi-GPU vs AMDs. CFx scaling appears pretty horrid. While somewhat "supported", I'm finding reports of <20% to be the norm.

TBH, i was thinking to get the 3rd card too, 3-way 780ti SLI if that i can increase fps to near 100 :/ its so cheap to buy a used 780ti here, where i live :)

the whole reason is that i dont wanna waste my money to get only 10fps more :/

A single 1070/TI/1080 would net you substantially more than 10FPS.

Also, you'll see more consistent frames from a single card. SLI still has overhead, and I'm sure you see some sizeable dips at times.

All relative to the cost, of course.

If 780TIs are super cheap where you are, I guess it's worth trying..... but moving beyond 2way SLI, scaling tends to drop off significantly, even when "support" for SLI is pretty good.
