I was thinking of upgrading my 8700k to one of the 3000 AMD series. Is it worth it since I just got my 8700k a year ago? Or I might just do a 2nd gaming pc.

Solution
Most of the 3600X, 3700X, 3800X gaming reviews I saw had them occasionally on parity with the 8700K, and, just as often a little behind....

As many 8700K's hit 5 GHz, that hypothetical 'upgrade' would be much more a lateral move, and, possibly even a slight frame rate decrease, depending on the game...
It's not worth it. Your 8700K is on par with the new Ryzen 5 3600X. If you have money to blow sure why not get a 3800X or 3900X.. but your best value comes in using your 8700K for many years.

You can probably hit 5.0GHz on your 8700K and outperform even a 3900X in every game.. maybe.

I do not think going AMD is good choice right now..Intel i7 8700K sorta still new and expected to last a very long time. Better just buy a new Nvidia GPU or something instead.

But if you like upgrade something like Intel i7 2nd Gen, yea you can go for a upgrade....

Not worth it. If you have money to burn, you can always experiment, but it won't be cheap.

From a pure "value" perspective, your i7 8700K is no slouch and just because AMD was able to get an upper hand, it does not make your i7 8700K obsolete!

Cheers!
