Worth upgrading a 760?

(Before you ask I've done a lot of googling but can't make up my mind on what would be best. I've compared the two GPUs and obviously the 970 is better, I'm just looking for people's opinions on what would be the best move.)

I've been meaning to get a new GPU for a while now and I'm looking at going from my GTX 760 Windforce to a GTX 970 or 980 - is it worth the money?

I don't want to buy something and then have it be redundant in 2 years or so and the GPU in my machine is already 3 years old so it's gotta be nearing the end of it's life cycle soon. I often get stuttering and the other day I actually got screen tearing so I think it's time to upgrade...any suggestions other than the 970 that'd be good value and also not be redundant after too long?

Thanks!

Solution
If you want to upgrade right now the GTX 970 or r9 390 would be good upgrades from your 760. If you can hold off until later in the year for Pascal you should be able to get a Nvidia card in the 970's price range that is quite a bit more powerful than a 970 though.

Look at what happened this generation. The 970 launched at $330 and was very close in performance to the 780Ti from the previous generation that launched at $699.

A GTX 970 should run the majority of games in 1080p at medium to to high settings for the next couple of years, no problem. There will be a few exception games down the line. Screen tearing can happen both ways, also. (more frames than your monitor and less frames than your monitor's refresh rate).
