I was able to find a Nvidia RTX 3080 at MSRP and picked it up. Is it worth the upgrade from a 2080TI to the 3080. I know the 40 series is coming but am worried about no being able to get one much like the 30 series. Should I keep the 3080 and stick with the 2080TI in hopes the 40 series is readily available or do the upgrade now? I play at 3440x1440 on an Ultra-wide monitor if that helps at all?

Well first thing to consider is the 4080 most likely won't come out 'till late 2022 to even early 2023, the 4090 will be the first batch to come out, so you can get a good understanding on the market strain when the 4090 drops and how much demand there is for it. Right now the word is nvidia is trying to delay the launch a little because of the current influx of cards on the market from cryptominers trying to offload. So enjoy the 3080 for a little while, it's still a decently strong card. Perhaps wait till the 5000 series? I'm going from a 2080Ti myself straight to a 4090. And if I have to wait for stock again, then so be it. I'm patient. Though sometimes I do worry that if my 2080Ti breaks that, that I would at least have a back-up card on hand to replace it quickly, so having that 3080 isn't a bad thing to have even with 4000 series looming around the corner.

It's not an upgrade I would have made given the 2080 Ti is still a capable card and the 4090 is out in October with the 4080 to follow possibly a month or so later. I don't think the performance jump is substantial enough, 40%+ seems to be the most you'll get. Though putting an exact number on it is difficult because it varies widely depending on workload. However I understand your concerns about availability, I suspect the 40 series will have greater availability than the 30 series but high demand and scalping could make it difficult to get one at launch.

I got this,..

I would continue with the 2080Ti until the 4090/4080 launch. The 10GBs on the 3080 will be a limiting factor in 1-2 years. It's already a limiting factor now in some niche cases.

Even if you don't get a 4000-series card, the 3080 cards will just get cheaper when the 4000s come out.
