If you want the latest DD EX and DTS decoding, yes.

If you don't care much about any of the above, no.

EAX 4 is awsome! There arn't to many games out right now that support it but I'm sure all games coming out will. I'm always looking over my shoulder when playing EQII bec the sounds are freakishly realistic.

Quit saying how great EAX 4 is.

Otherwise I will be forced to buy a set of Logitech 5.1 speakers and an Audigy 2 Value/ZS.

Then I will have to buy some EAX 4 games, then a new video card to play those new games, but wait I don't want an AGP card so I have to get an NF4 motherboard, Althlon 64 Processor & heatsink. And I don't wan't to waste my old parts so I will need a new case, 2nd powersupply, 2x512 PC3200 ....

What's EAX 4, I am not listening....

lol, I know how that is completely. That is how I ended up with my current system, lol. If I upgrade this I might as well upgrad that, etc, etc. EAX 4 is probably extra sweet for me due to my Klipsch Promedia 5.1 system w/ bookshelf speakers

I haven't heard about any pcie sound cards even in development yet so I think it will be a while before we see some. Motherboards will still have PCI slots on them for a while yet so don't worry.

Shuttle just realeased an all PCI-e barebone system. No PCI.

It doesn't support SLI so either Shuttle expects more PCI-e cards in the near future or they are were smoking something when they designed it.

That is understandable considering the very small space they are dealing with. I guess I should have said atx and larger desktop motherboards will have pci for a long time

thats good i guess would hate to have to buy all new cards
what are the advantages of pci e for these cards anyway
i don`t think the bus is that much faster? just a smaller form factor?

Actually my guess is they wanted to make an SLI system and failed, probably do to thermal/PSU constraints.

My first PC has PCI and ISA slots and I remember that for a long time afterwards ISA modems and soundcards where the norm.

I suspect that the next big leap for soundcards won't be from PCI to PCI-e but rather for them to be integrated into the video card.
