Question Worth upgrading from i5 4430s 2.7ghz to RYZEN 3600?

The 3600 will run great on any B450, X470, or X570 board...it just depends on what feature set you want. The MSI B450 boards are popular choices...if you plan to replace the 3600 at a later date with something like a 3900 then make sure the board you buy has a quality VRM. Quality VRMs are found on boards employing real 8 or more phases like the Asrock Taichi x470 board for example...which, unlike B450 boards and even many x470 boards, is made to handle the 12 and 16 core CPUs AMD has planned for socket AM4.

just make sure you have a good quality powersupply too, but yea assuming you have a graphics card, storage drives and a case, this is what your upgrade would look like.

XFX gold powersupplies are good, made by Seasonic i believe, so no worries there.
GTX 980 ti is still a great gpu about GTX 1070 level of performance.

i think you are set just make sure you get the b450 tomahawk Max version from MSI or an updated ryzen 3rd gen ready b450 from other brands. (if you are going for a b450 route) to get it working out of the box otherwise you would need to flash the BIOS.

going for x570 is also a good option since you wont need a new motherboard if ever you decide to get a 3800x/3900x/3950x(not yet released) anytime soon, i doubt the b450 can cut it with these. for x470 i personally dont recommend it might as well get a x570 board unless you get a good price on some of them and especially as dorsai mentioned if they have good VRMs.
