Im currently running an i7-8700k. I am considering upgrading to the i7-9700k since it is only 1-5 fps "worse" than the i9-9900k for $154 less. however it would still cost me $360 just to upgrade one generation. If you think i should upgrade should i just get the i7-9700k, or just go ahead and get the i9-9900k?

Your 8700k is not going to hold you back in many cases unless you set resolution and settings low in games. Even then, an 8700k isn't going to be too far behind a 9900k or 9700k.

If you really want more performance, overclock your CPU.

The new Intel CPUs are not enough of an upgrade to consider dropping a lot of money on.
Benchmarks from that website are from the users uploads on how they did with there CPU. i9 9900k has got 16 threads where the other one has only 8 threads so i9 9900k will perform really great but if your on budget then go with the lower price one because there both good cpu!.

Edited your CPU has 12 threads and 6cores and speed upto 4.70 GHz seems like an good cpu that you are on now and its best to wait due to fact that prices could come down when they start making really good 10th gen cpu. So i think your gaming comp is still powerful at moment and still able to get performance out of it!

The 8700K is only just now being truly challenged in gaming by the 3700X/3800X...; it's not as if 6c/12t is 'no longer cutting it'....

(Just because something is two years old does not mean it needs upgrading....; compare FPS online with your GPU against an 9700K/9900K, and you decide...as it is your money.)
