Question worth upgrading to 1660Ti?

Hi,

I have an MSI 1060 6GB and was wondering if it is worth upgrading to the 1660Ti. I was looking at the benchmarks and it seems to be slightly faster than the 1070 which made me think it could be worth it, but then i was reading various posts in forums and people were saying it may not be worth buying. So i figure I would ask with my specific situation.

I just do 1080P 144hz gaming, and don't expect to do anything more. The upgrade would cost me about $150 once I sell my 1060. Only reason I am asking about this is a friend is building a computer and wants a 1060 and would be more than happy with mine. So this would be my opportunity to upgrade.

The 1660 Ti & 1070 trade blows depending on the game so if your going for a 1660 Ti model under $300 then it may be worth it however around the $300 mark I'd take the 1070 (extra 2gb of vram).

As for if it's worth it that's something only you can determine but here's a comparison.

I would say no. Usually upgrades to the next generation is not worth it unless you jump up one or two performance levels, like from a 1060 to a 2070 or 2080. From 1060 to 1660Ti doesn't make much sense. Skip this one and wait for the next generation. Unless you have tons of bottlenecks, but in that case the 1660Ti wouldn't be the solution neither. My personal rule is that an upgrade needs to have at least a 75% or 100% performance increase in order to be justified. You usually get this if you skip one generation.
