Hello - I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade my GPU to a GTX 1070 from a GTX 680 as I'm currently yielding less than ideal performance on a few recent games (Doom, Forza Horizon 3, Division to name a small sample). I'm typically running these games on 1080p, low settings, hovering at around 60 FPS but I'd like a bit more graphical fidelity and a smoother experience. It would appear that my CPU is not currently bottlenecking me for what I'm playing, but I'm nowhere near as savvy as this community. I'm on a 1080p 60 hz monitor, but have my system linked with my 4K TV, and I'll likely purchase a 1440p 144 hz gaming monitor next if the GPU upgrade is substantial. Below is a list of what's currently comprising my system:
CPU - intel i7 2600K (seems fine, I can OC this to 4 Ghz + if necessary)
GPU - GTX 680 2GB
RAM - 16GB DDR 3 1600 (Can likely purchase some more/better RAM here as well, if necessary)
SSD - 500 GB Samsung
Power Supply - Seasonic S12II Series S12II 620 Bronze
Mother Board - Gigabyte Z68AP-D3
Some thoughts / input from the experts here would be greatly appreciated as upgrading the GPU seems a bit more feasible than a bottoms up new rig; I'd likely re-purpose the GPU downstream anyways so this isn't an unnecessary expense for an upgrade path. Happy holidays!
