Worth upgrading to R5 2600 from i5 6600 for 144hz 1440p

I need to know if it worth upgrading my CPU and motherboard.

I want know if it would be worth upgrading my i5 6600 to a Ryzen 5 2600 and change to a B450 Aorus motherboard. Or do I need a better upgrade to play 144Hz 1440p (I have GTX 1080 OC . My current CPU (i5 6600) and can’t really handle 144hz 1440p, even playing fortnite. IS IT WORTH UPGRADING TO R5 2600 or do I need more?

It is definitely worth it, but if I were you I would wait for summer when the new Ryzen processors are being announced and probably soonly released. They are improving the litography fro 14nm to 7nm, which means a big energetic efficiency improvement, which leads to much higher clocks and more room for more cores with the same price of nowadays processors.

In conclusion: In half a year there's gonna be a noticeable performance leap in Ryzen processors and a great improvement in the performance per dolar. It is even rumoured that third generation of Ryzen processors is going to increase the number of cores in every end processors.

Wow im kinda surprised a i5 6600 with a 1080 has trouble at 1440p, im currently running a 2070 on a ancient 4790k I7 and 1440p is very playable on most modern titles. I plan on upgrading to a ryzen 3000 series when they launch. If you look at some benchmarks the i5 6600 has almost the exact same single core performance score as a ryzen 5 2600, I doubt you would see a huge difference in performance, waiting for the 3000 series would be the best option.

It is pointless to compare both processors having only in mind the not-OCed, single core performance as the Ryzen 2600 has 50% more cores, two threads per core and overclocking capabilities. It may have not trouble at 1440p if playing at a max of 60FPS, but as he said he wants play on a 144Hz monitor.
