[SOLVED] Would a 5800x "weaken" my ability to make use of a 3090

As the title would suggest, I'm getting a tad impatient about waiting for CPU's to become in stock, and in the UK the problem is of course now even worse because of how we have left the EU... So, to query, if I was to buy a 5800x and pair it with a 3090, would I be weakening my rig by doing so?

Weaken it compared to what?

The only thing against a 5800X is it's value proposition: not enough greater performance to justify cost vs 5600X while 5900X is so much better in performance for just a little bit more. But that's only for content creation, where more than 6 cores can benefit you.

If you can't get a 5600x for gaming only, it will do just fine.

Well that all deepends on whats the speccs of the system now... I mean it can hurt your system or help it all deepends on so much... What do you do with the pc???? How long is it used???? Whats the full system specc list...

That's like asking if having a $100 bill will weaken your ability to spend it vs 5x $20 bills. In some very rare, obscure cases yes it could, but for the vast majority of situations money is money, spends just the same.
And that one i will 1000% disagree with... Money is an obvious thing to a lot of people but when it comes to pc parts if your new to this kind of thing for all you know a gtx is worth just as much as a rtx....

Thanks for all the information, I was more speaking in general when I asked my question, I wasn't coming at this with a full rig in mind, my system specs will eventually be https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Yeldur/saved/vw2VWZ (Exceptions apply to GPU/CPU due to the changes I want to make)

I've realised that if the only thing I'm waiting on is the CPU and the GPU, I might as well look at just getting a 3090, even though I'm not likely to use even a fraction of its power.

Mostly because 3080's are pretty much impossible to obtain, same with the 5900X.

This is very informative and interesting, thank you. It seems that a 5800x is probably what I should go for then, I don't really care about the cost inefficiency it has, I just fancy a bit more power, and where the 5900x is unavailable it is more sensical to me to get a 5800 versus a 5600.

Guess that one is settled then. I might be a bit more patient and wait for a little bit longer, but at least I can rest easy in the knowledge that it makes virtually no difference in terms of CPU at least for myself; given that the rig is going to primarily be used for gaming.

There are 5800X in stock everywhere in the UK now so you shouldn't have to wait.
