I was going to buy a 1660 super but i can't find an 8 pin connector for it in my psu. Would an adapter work? (i have a 500w psu)

What model PSU?
Can you show photo of PSU label? (upload to imgur.com and post link).

Generally to get 8pin PCIE power connector, you'd need two PCIE 6pin connectors.

well thats the thing i cant get to the label because its covered, i would have to completly take it out of the case to see

This isn't optional information unless you're indifferent about whether your GPU, or your PC, survives. If you can't confirm that the PSU is safe to use, then you'll have to take it out of the case anyway to replace it.

And something without an eight-pin connector? It's a near certainty that it's complete junk.
