Would a 8-pin fit in a 6-pin slot?

Hi, i just bougth two 8-pin PCI-e cables from cablemod because i thougth all 1080ti’s had 2x8-pins. But then i realized that the refrence cards go 1 8-pin and 1 6 pin, and i can get a really good deal on one (not yet bougth it).

So i was wondering if a 8 pin cable would fit in a 6-pin slot, with 2 pins just hanging there?

If it is a 6+2-pin then yes it will work, 2-pins will just hang there.

*Why did you have to buy the cables? What power supply are you using?

Its not a 6+2, just a solid 8 pin. So the question is if the outer wall is to thick to fit between the outer 2 pins?

What power supply is it? I've not seen just an 8-pin PCIE power cable.

Edit: No. An 8-pin PCIE power connector will not fit into a 6-pin graphic card power port.

Its a extention from cablemod, not original psu cable

Oh, it's an extension that extends the length of the cable. I have a couple of those for a GPU mining rig. The 8-pin is a solid piece and will not fit on a 6-pin connector.

Why did you have to use an extension? Is is a mining rig?
