Hey all,

I have a H100i v2 for my i7 9700K in an older case, a Thermaltake MK1 Chaser.

The mobo is a budget Gigabyte Z390 UD

I love gigabyte for mobos, never had issues, so I wont look elsewhere for a mobo, but this board has just 1 3.0 usb header and only 2 2.0 usb headers internally, which limit some of my options

I was looking at the Z390 Aurora Pro by Gigabyte as a replacement, since I added my 970Evo, temps inside the case has gotten a bit toasty at full load

gtx 1080ti hitting 70 to 72c, cpu on 2 to 3 cores hitting as high as 72 to 75c

In most games they go from 65 to 75c.

I have to remove the top case otherwise temps seem to boil up to 75-80c

I am looking to replace the mobo and most likely will replace the aio next, and if needed this amazing case for a modern better air flowing case,

But my question is, can a better motherboard spread heat around better? Or is it purely the aio cooler that dictates it? ty

Solution
By the looks of it that case is not well set up for watercooling, there is alot of front obstruction so not great airflow to the cooler to begin with.
The cooler also vents directly into a second set of panels and fans, which is counterproductive. These issues would probably explain the higher than expected CPU temps.

You can try removing the top two case fans and see what sort of effect that has on your CPU temps.

In a very general sense if the mobo has better (more efficient) VRM, heatsinks and such it "could" contribute to lower temps. By and large it's going to be more a function of your case air flow and fans.
9700K isn't known to be cool and those GPU temps are fine if that's under load.

Ok Thanks, what of the CPU temps? With the top off temps at full load are around 65 to 70 and idle 28c to 35c

If the case top goes on, its more like 68c to 78c

Here is a picture of the case top I refer to, I dust it off every morning and night since I have top off, using air duster

and temps currently(have BDO running on other monitor)

If I can get away with the case looking like trash but performs well, I am cool with leaving the top off, nobody sees my case but me, I was more concerned with longevity of my cpu and gpu.

What does the inside of the case look like? Specifically how is your radiator setup?

H100i vs is mounted to the top inside and air is being pulled into front of the case and bottom and out the top and back

Cable management is a little better now, but not much but mobo and gpu have been cleared of wires.

I have removed the aio 2x and repasted and reseated the cpu and verified its on correctly.

pump temps, pc been on since yesterday evening playing bdo I also run a 3440x1440 resolution, not sure if that matters

Ok so I took the 2 fans off the top and now onlt the radiator fans are there, which are on the inside bottom of the radiator, in a pull config, I took 1 of the 2 fans I removed and put it on the side panel, since it fits there perfectly and I never bought one for it.

So I removed one fan, relocated the bigger fan, dusted and organized wires best I could(really cant do much as the case is bigger than the wires are long).

I will monitor temps for next 24 hours with the case top back on and see how this works. Ill report my findings tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions!,

I can already tell you temps are noticeably lower(Top is on, the way it was before I upgraded the i7 6700k to the 9700k.

After doing as you suggested, gpu is at 68 to 72(thats normal, I dont have any custom fan curve set for it, and EVGA has it set to turn on as needed, and its running at full load.

The cpu, is running at 54 to 68 under full load. with the lid closed. Only tested in the mmo I am playing, so Ill give a final update tomorrow, but so far, your advised did the trick and saved me some money. TY!
