Would a 1080ti that is being bottlenecked by a i5-6600k still get better fps than a 1080 that is running with a i7-7700?

I know this is very broad and im happy to give further details but im just curious if the 1080ti would drop below a 1080 if being bottlenecked and make it not worth the upgrade.

Cheers

Depends upon specific games and what the CPU usage is, what resolution? 1080p more bottleneck, 1440p less bottleneck.

The only game that im struggling with right now is Modern warefare. Im currently dropping frames and my CPU is bottle necking at 100% constantly. I want to run at 1440p preferably.

Modern games are increasingly core heavy requiring more cores and threads. A 4 core CPU without multithreading is effectively obsolete.
Ah that's great to know. My motherboard only goes up to a i7-7700, is that good enough for modern games or should I look to upgrade my Motherboard and cpu before my gpu (1060 6gb)

How much does a 7700 cost? I wouldn’t waste money on a 4 core 8 thread cpu that’s already showing its age. Like I said, 3600 and Mobo is $250 and you get 6 cores/12 threads vs 4/8
7700 is around 250-300 on a good day. The main issue with going with AMD is i have really no idea what im looking for/ doing. If money wasnt the issue what would be the best AMD Processor/ motherboard combo to get? That would work with a 1060.

No big reason to go more than a 3600 at around $175. If you wanted an 8 core 3700x. MSI b450 boards with “MAX” designation will work. The cheapest, pro m2 max model will do just fine but if you want a really solid one, tomahawk max is good.

IMO, get a solid cpu and motherboard. Get a new gpu when the new ones come out in the fall.

Would it be silly to go for a 3800x? considering its only about £30 more than the 3700x

That’s up to you but the only real difference is the additional wattage that allows a small bump in clock speed potential. It’s going to run hotter and will definitely need aftermarket cooling.

Great, so if I go with the 3700x what kind of GPU should I be looking at going for to get decent fps on modern games running @1440
