Can a core 2 quad processor be connected to a asus P5LD2-VM MOTHERBOARD if not why the socket size is essentially the same

Solution
No.

Core 2 Quad CPU's will not work on this motherboard because they are not supported by the 945G chipset used on this motherboard.

Core 2 Quad CPU's require at least a G33 chipset.

meogrpaher,

As far as I can tell, here's the situation:

ASUS P5LD2-VM

> which are Pentium, Pentium D, and Core 2 Duo. I think the best CPU will be the Core2 Duo E6700, 2-core @ 2.66GHz.

I have a Dell Dimension E520 with a Core2 Duo E6700 2-core @ 2.66GHz Originally a Pentium D 830). With decent graphics cards, and HD's, these systems can be completely useful for working tasks, though I would say probably not good for gaming given the CPU clock speeds and the RAM is DDR2 667, which is slow and runs very hot.

In my view, it would be wiser use of time and costs, to change this board to a more modern LGA1155 or 1150 and use an i3, i5, or i7. You can also buy used systems like a Dell Optiplex 960 i5 3.0GHz for under $150. A QX6800 CPU can cost $120 alone.

> a completed listing for an Optiplex 980 4-core i5 880 @ 3.33GHz sold for$129. Ce aware the GPU needs to be compact in these systems. Another choice I like even more is the Dell Precision T3500 beautifully made and you can buy these with up a 6-core Xeon w3690 @ 2.47 /3.73Ghz- though that's on the $500-600 range. Here's one:

> with the W3580 4-cores @ 3.33 / 3.6Ghz, sold for $187.
