Well the title explains it. I was wondering if I could get more performance upgrading to a 1060 from my Radeon HD 6970. I have been needing to do this a while and this card will last me a lot longer. I am getting about 100 FPS average with my 8150 and 6970. Will it be any better with a 1060. And would there be a way to get performance out of it?

Solution
Depends hugely on the game. In cpu heavy games it may even be your cpu limiting performance or determining minimum FPS.

However upgrading to a 1060 even if you are cpu limited in a particular game wouldn’t cause you to get lower FPS but you could run higher settings at the same FPS.

I would do it just for the better power figures. The 6970 is an ancient dual GPU card that can use 300W+. The 1060 is a 120W card that performs better. So not only will you get a bump in speed in games, but you'll use less power doing it, and not have to worry about CF support. Even if your CPU holds you back a bit, it's worth it.

i have a 1060 and a fx 8150 and it bottle necks massively i suggest geting the 1060 and then saving up for a new cpu
